Conference host
Cologne Zoo. Passionate about animals. For 166 years.
Cologne Zoo celebrates its 165th anniversary in 2025. With around 10,000 animals from more than 800 species, it is one of the most diverse zoos in Europe. Cologne Zoo has been an unmistakable part of Cologne since 1860. It combines tradition with innovative strength and links leisure and recreation with science and research. Cologne Zoo also repeatedly sets international standards – e.g. in the construction of modern animal houses or in its extensive commitment to species conservation. All this is honoured by more than 1 million visitors annually.

World Association of Zoos and Aquariums
The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) is the global alliance of regional associations, national federations, zoos, and aquariums, all dedicated to the care and conservation of animals and their habitats around the world.
WAZA promotes cooperation between leading zoos and aquariums, regional and national associations, and a wide range of partners including wildlife experts, academic institutions, and universities. Through these collaborations, WAZA supports species conservation management and the responsible husbandry of animals in human care, while also fostering the highest welfare and ethical standards across its member institutions.
In addition, WAZA has established strategic partnerships with prominent international conservation organisations. These partnerships strengthen the commitment of WAZA members to address urgent global challenges such as illegal wildlife trade, coral reef restoration, marine litter, sustainable palm oil production, and climate change.
